Common questions
Are there licensed scrap yards in Croydon?
No licensed scrap metal sites are registered with Croydon council on the Environment Agency register, as of 2 November 2026. The nearest licensed yard is Ferrous& Non Ferrous Ltd, about 7 miles from the centre of Croydon.
Will a scrap yard pay me in cash?
No. Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, licensed dealers in England and Wales must pay by bank transfer, card payment or a non-transferable cheque. Cash is banned.
Can someone collect scrap metal from me instead?
Yes, if they hold a scrap metal collector's licence from the council. Ask to see it, and never hand scrap to an unlicensed collector.
