Before you go: bring photo ID and proof of address, because licensed yards must check who you are. Yards cannot pay cash by law, so expect a bank transfer or cheque. Ring ahead to check opening times and what they take.

Common questions

Are there licensed scrap yards in Waltham Forest?

No licensed scrap metal sites are registered with Waltham Forest council on the Environment Agency register, as of 2 November 2026. The nearest licensed yard is Kwik Bodyworks, about 4 miles from the centre of Waltham Forest.

Will a scrap yard pay me in cash?

No. Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, licensed dealers in England and Wales must pay by bank transfer, card payment or a non-transferable cheque. Cash is banned.

Can someone collect scrap metal from me instead?

Yes, if they hold a scrap metal collector's licence from the council. Ask to see it, and never hand scrap to an unlicensed collector.
