Common questions
How many licensed scrap yards are there in Wakefield?
The Environment Agency register lists 16 licensed scrap metal sites in the Wakefield council area, as of 1 November 2026.
Will a scrap yard pay me in cash?
No. Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, licensed dealers in England and Wales must pay by bank transfer, card payment or a non-transferable cheque. Cash is banned.
What do I need to bring to sell scrap metal?
Bring photo ID and something showing your address. Yards must check your full name and address before they accept metal, and they keep a record of every sale for three years.
